The extent of the untested rape kit backlog in Alaska is unknown. In 2015, Alaska Governor Bill Walker began a preliminary audit, which is ongoing. As of August 2016, the Governor's office has found approximately 3,600 untested kits statewide. Alaska law does not require law enforcement agencies to count, track, or test rape kits.
