Nashville is one of the cities where we are using public records requests to uncover the number of untested rape kits in police storage as part of The Accountability Project. We have not yet received complete data from Nashville. Please continue to check this page for the most up-to-date information.
Through our communication with the Metro Nashville Police Department as part of the Accountability Project inquiry, we discovered that 4,524 sexual assault kits, some dating as far back as 1995, were sent to the state lab with a request in August 2014.

In compliance with state legislation requiring all law enforcement agencies to inventory the number of untested rape kits in their custody, Nashville, which had previously acknowledged a backlog of 338 kits, reported getting that number down to 200.
