I AM EVIDENCE, a groundbreaking HBO documentary produced by Mariska Hargitay, premiered on April 16, 2018. The film exposes the alarming number of untested rape kits in the United States, bringing attention to the disturbing pattern of how the criminal justice system has historically treated sexual assault survivors.
Advocates around the world joined the Joyful Heart Foundation in dedicating April 16 as the #ENDTHEBACKLOG Day of Action, a series of events to bring attention to the rape kit backlog and raise awareness of this injustice.
Those who participated during the day joined a live social media campaign; asked and answered questions in a Twitter chat with leading organization working to end the backlog; and shared their feelings in a live word cloud, provided by Poll Everywhere. During the I AM EVIDENCE premiere, people in all 50 states gathered to watch the film together, contacted their elected officials, and held discussions about the issue.
