Miami is one of the cities where we are using public records requests to uncover the number of untested rape kits in police storage as part of The Accountability Project. In 2016, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement released their report of the statewide audit of untested sexual assault kits, and reported that the City of Miami has 2,243 untested kits and Miami-Dade PD has 1,350 untested kits.

In September 2015, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office announced that the Miami-Dade Police Department (Forensic Services Bureau) was awarded $1,968,246 in funding to address their backlog and test 2,900 rape kits.
